American multi-instrumentalist and singer songwriter Emma Ruth Rundle released her second single “Protection” from her upcoming album Marked for Death, which is set to drop Sept. 30. The song is a dark rock ballad with gnarly guitar riffs throughout. A simple drum solo introduces Rundle’s haunting vocals that echo through your headphones. It has a similar sound to the first self-titled single released in July. As the album explores themes about feelings of loss, defeat, heartache and self-destructiveness, “Protection” seems to be about a short-lived love. She says:
Oh heaven sends him down to me
And he’s got everything i’ll ever need
Just for 16 days, i let him tie down
The frailest part of my body
I am small but in your arms
You are colder in your heart
I am worthless in your arms
But you offer this protection no one else has given me
