LISTEN: Testament Release New Song “Brotherhood of the Snake”

Testament, a band in name and song and spirit that beckons the subjects of religion, evil, and musical assertiveness, has released a new song. The title track to its new album, “Brotherhood of the Snake” is a song that puts a fresh new take on classic metal, hardcore musicianship.

Heavy hitting drums, loud, screaming guitar, and deep demonic and resolute vocals, “Brother of the Snake” holds all the elements that has established Testament as a known band, perhaps one of the ultimate metal bands. Sporting 60 percent of their original members, Testament still holds its feet firmly on the ground with its album follow-up to 2012’s Dark Roots of Evil. The new title track implements a speedy and reoccurring electric riff that effortlessly vamps the listener’s heart rate. Then the drums provide a basis for the song’s foundation with pounding and aggression put into every beat. Lastly, the vocals and lyrics add the character of the song. Nothing about this song can be put across as easily scanned over.

True to the allusion given by the name of the band, “Brotherhood of the Snake” has religious and spiritual themes, but, of course, that are not themes of sunshine and roses. Snake, a largely negative connotation by common knowledge and by biblical knowledge, is a primary character of the song. Serpents “coiled from below,” these creatures are the subject while the feelings of immediate danger and evil awaits. These components coupled completely in sing with the hard driven music of Testament seemingly work to make “Brotherhood of the Snake” work as a whole and without a disconnect in lyrics to music.

Nonetheless, Testament does not only have just one song on their upcoming album, that of which is named from the song at hand as stated. Set to come out October 28th, the new album should undoubtably keep to Testament’s reputation that is easily drawn upon in “Brotherhood of the Snake.” Listen to the new song below…
