Aluna George has released a new single, “Mediator”, which is set to feature on upcoming album I Remember. The track marks the duo’s fourth release in the last year (“Mean What I Mean”, “I Remember”, and “I’m in Control”).
“Mediator” simultaneously employs the Neptunes-like sparseness of previous productions while also embracing a previously unseen electronic lushness. The single opens with twinkling piano and synthetic horns, before segueing into brooding percussion and keyboards. Aluna Francis’ mature, sultry vocals soar above the complex mix, adding dynamism to the track. George Reid’s short p-funk guitar and horn interludes further strengthen the otherwise understated production.
I Remember is out September 16th via Interscope, and features contributions from Pell, Zhu, Leikeli47, Dreezy and Popcaan.
“It started to feel a bit like we had all these friends in music that we liked hanging out with but we haven’t shared AlunaGeorge with anyone else, and at some point we were like ‘why not?'” Francis said in an interview with Rolling Stone. “Let’s open it up a bit more. We wanted to let people in a bit more now that we’re more confident in our sound.”
The duo wrote and recorded the album in London and Los Angeles.
AlunaGeorge released their sole LP, Body Music in 2013. They will open for Sia on her upcoming Nostalgic for the Present arena tour, which begins September 29 in Seattle.
