Amanda Palmer and Australian singer/songwriter Brendan Maclean teamed up with producer Paul Mac(the founding chair of Silverchair) and just dropped a surprise comedy dance track that reveals the “frustrations of the day-of-show guestlist.” The track “On The Door” features a slew of voicemail leaving, guestlist needing friends that include Ben Folds, Craig Ferguson, Eugene Mirman, Kirsten Vangsness, Mike Posner, Palmer’s husband Neil Gaiman, Noah Britton, Patton Oswalt, Reggie Watts, Sarah Jones and lastly Sarah Silverman. In the song, Silverman calls on behalf of her mother’s dentist, Demmis Schlotberg, who is hoping to win a spot on the doorlist by bringing a supply of cocaine.
The original vocals and start of this track date back to early 2014 in the dressing room that Palmer and Maclean were sharing at the Sydney Festival. Just as some slight humor the two wrote the song. A few weeks later the two were in the studio with Paul Mac to record the cover of Bat For Lashes “Laura” that was released just a few months ago. Deciding to take the joke even further, after so many friend favors later the song blossomed. The track was released via Palmer’s patreon, that has over 8,000 supporters micro-funding all of Palmer’s projects.
