Midlake is known as the American folk rock band from Denton, Texas that was formed back in 1999. This fall Midlake will celebrate the 10th anniversary of The Trials of Van Occupanther with a deluxe reissue via Bella Union on 180g gold vinyl, complete with a B2 pull out poster, handwritten lyrics, and unseen photos. The album reissue will be available on October 28th. The cover art will be redone in a hallucinatory painting by neo-impressionist Brian Lotti. The tracks from the original album will also feature a special bonus 7″ with two previously unreleased tracks, “The Fairest Way” and “Festival.” What is important about these two tracks are that they were recorded before the original vocalist Tim Smith left the band in which fans are given a sneak peak from the past.
The group first debuted their album Bamnan and Slivercork in 2004 which drew comparisons to Grandaddy and Radiohead. In 2006, Van Occupanther became an instant classic and over the next year became the groups commercial breakthrough. Midlake has been known to be attuned to nature’s shifts and embraced change. After the vocalist Tim Smith departed the group, guitarist/singer Eric Pulido stepped up to lead vocals for the 2013’s Antiphon. Since then each of the memebers have ventured into new musical projects with members of Grandaddy, Franz Ferdinand, Band of Horses, and Travis for an album thats due for release next year. The hard work and dedication from these projects serves to show that the seeds that were planted with The Trials of Van Occupanther created a modern classic with timeless magic.
The Trials of Van Occupanther (10th Anniversary Deluxe Reissue) will be released 28th October via Bella Union
