It has been quite some time since fans of Daron Malakian have had a chance to hear new music from System of a Down and Scars on Broadway. While it will not completely fill the years-long void in new material from both bands, Malakian has announced a special appearance at West Hollywood’s Troubadour nightclub on August 18 alongside musical collective the Millennials.
The guitarist’s main gig, System of a Down, have been waffling on the progress of a new album for several years now. In 2012 the band stated they had no plans to write a follow up to 2005’s Mesmerize and Hypnotize. In March of 2013, the band then made an announcement that they would be working on a new album “when it’s the right time to make it.” A few months later lead singer Serj Tankian denied rumors that the band had begun working on the album. Last we heard, Tankian had offered a little more hope, saying the band “might” work on a new album.
Meanwhile, Scars on Broadway, Malakian’s side project with SOAD’s John Dolmayan has not released an album since their self-titled debut in 2008. The band has not performed live since 2012’s appearance at the Hollywood Palladium in 2012 opening for Deftones.
Millennials are described as a LA-based music project that combines elements of punk, reggae, dance music and jazz with Mike Tree on drums, saxophonist Matt Silberman, keyboardist Mesrop Sarkisyan and guitarist/vocalist Orbel Babayan.
