According to Consequence of Sound, last week at Sundance NEXT Fest at the Theatre at Ace Hotel in Los Angeles, alternate hip-hop producer Flying Lotus unveiled his debut short film Royal. Interestingly, audience members were all given custom-made Royal barf bags (if that doesn’t paint a picture about what kind of film it was, I don’t know what will). FlyLo then went to Twitter and stated that Royal is just a part of a grand project that combines a feature-film and a full-length album titled Kuso.
The film will feature music from Captain Murphy (FlyLo’s rapper alter ego), Akira Yamoaka, and Thundercat. Also among contributors is Aphex Twin, who recently released 2 upbeat singles in “2X202-ST5” and “CHEETAH7b”. Humorously, when FlyLo reached out to Dave Chapelle, Dave was apparently far too disgusted with the film’s content to participate. Los Angeles filmmakers apply to help with the film by tweeting their portfolios at @BRAINFEEDER. A teaser for the film can be viewed below:
FlyLo fans can see him in person this October, along with LCD Soundsystem, M83, and others, at iii Points Festival.
