Avant-garde punks Psychic TV have released a new track, “Alienist”, which is set to feature on their upcoming album by the same name. The nearly nine minute track marks the storied group’s first release since 2014 LP Snakes.
“Alienist” sees Psychic TV return to familiar production territory. Twitchy guitar, rapid synth blips, and tribal drums back typically monotone Genesis P-Orridge vocals, creating a perfectly satisfactory acid punk track. “Alienist” covers little new ground, but provides a strong reminder of the group’s overall talent. This is Psychic TV at its strongest, employing sounds atypical to punk to produce textured, dynamic music.
In addition to “Alienist”, upcoming track “I’m Looking For You” will be the only other original track on Alienist. The new album features covers of artists ranging from Harry Nilsson to The Creation. In addition to Alienist, Psychic TV will re-release their legendary debut LP Force the Hand of Chance. Both albums will be released on August 18th.
Psychic TV will continue their ongoing world tour to help promote their new material. They will notably feature at this weekend’s Berserktown Festival in LA, where they will perform Force The Hand of Chance in its entirety, and will hold Alienist release shows at venues including Brooklyn’s Music Hall of Williamsburg, Basilica Soundscape, POP Montreal.
