After rocketing to the top of the rock charts in 2014 with sophomore LP Going to Hell, The Pretty Reckless are back with the highly anticipated follow-up record Who You Selling For, due the 21st of October via Razor & Tie.
After debuting in 2010 with a fairly innocuous alternative rock record Light Me Up, Taylor Momsen and co. rocked the world in 2014 with smash singles from Going to Hell such as “Heaven Knows”, “Messed Up World (F’d Up World)”, and “Follow Me Down,” all of which reached number one on Billboard’s Mainstream Rock Songs Chart.
In support of Going to Hell, the band underwent a grueling two-year run simply touring and touring. In the process, apparently Momsen and co-songwriter Ben Phillips had built up quite a lot of energy and jumped right into writing songs for the new record.
“We had so much we wanted to say, it was like shaking a can of soda on tour, and then when we started writing we cracked the seal,” says Momsen. “The touring life is very isolating. You look at the world through a bus or airplane window. But music is the healing factor. It’s the one thing that is grounding and a true companion through the forest. It saved us — again.”
The band teamed up with longtime collaborator Kato Khandwala to create this powerful rocking record that showcases the band’s hard rock and particularly blues influences. The LP consists of 12 raucous tracks that cement the band’s place at the forefront of mainstream rock. Blabbermouth writes, “the deeply personal album features a diverse set of standout tracks, from the blistering hard rock of ‘Oh My God’ to the classic southern rock of ‘Back to the River’.”
Other than that, the band has already released the lead single “Take Me Down” which premiered July 15 on iHeart Radio and hit the radio waves four days later. The track features Momsen’s rough yet smooth vocals and dark lyrics rolling over classic rock guitar lines.
