At today’s launch event for Game of Thrones The Concert Experience Music is Coming fans lined up in abundance to get their picture taken with Arya’s sword “Needle” or while they were sitting on a replica of the famous Iron Throne. Additional attractions featured costumes from the show for characters such as Jaqen H’ghar and The Wait as well as an interactive video wall where for a tweet you could find your face on a mock Hall of Faces from the House of Black and White.
Cast member Isaac Hempstead Wright (Bran Star on the show) did a short interview with series composer Ramin Djawadi about the tour and what would be involved. Djawadi promised an immersive experience where the orchestra for the tour would perform in the round, surrounded by the audience. He intimated that the set pieces for the show would be tailored to match the scenes the songs came from. After the brief Q&A they left the stage and a modified orchestra did a fifteen minute medley of various songs from the show, including the main theme and the “Rains of Castamere.”
At a private gathering for select media after the event, Djawadi showed a cinematic detailing in 360 degrees what the setup for the stage and animatics would be. The visual representation indicated that in addition to the center orchestra pit there would be 2 large circular stages and 4 smaller circular stages named Winterfell, King’s Landing, Dorne, Castle Black, Braavos and Mehreen respectively. The video further indicated how when songs from scenes in the show for those cities will be played additional backdrops or projections will display vibrant representations of the cities in question will be displayed. It was not indicated in the presentation video whether these set pieces would be physically constructed, a video wall or a hologram but even just as a sketch they looked impressive. They also briefly indicated that these stages would be used for segments such as “The Wall,” “Goodbye Brother,” “Dracarys” and “Heart Tree.”
