The Damned 40th Anniversary @ Gramercy Theatre

The legendary Gothic-punk band from the UK, The Damned, have announced that they will be performing at Gramercy Theatre this October 29th and 30th in celebration of the band’s 40th anniversary.

There seem to be quite a few fantastic shows happening around Halloween this year in New York City, but this one just might take the cake. The British punk rockers announced their return to the United States earlier this week with three tour dates, two of which are in NYC and the other in Los Angeles. The celebration for the band’s 40-year landmark will be mostly taking place in Europe, and it is unlikely that other US dates will be added to the list.

It’s been a while since the band has come out with some new material.  Their last record, So, Who’s Paranoid?, came out 8-years ago now, but don’t let that worry you too much.  There has been some talk of new album in the foreseeable future. But in the meantime, check out the hit song, Little Miss Disaster, from their latest record which was also the group’s first single since Shut It came out in ’96.

It is safe to say that The Damned got the short end of the stick when it comes to their contributions to early punk rock in Britain. In 1976, The Damned released their debut record, Damned Damned Damned, that took punk rock to a level that no one ever thought was possible (thank God, right?). It was also the first UK full-length punk album of all time, and they did it one year after being the first band in the UK to release a punk rock hit single, New Rose.

If you want to catch The Damned at Gramercy Theatre on October 29th or 30th, tickets go on sale tomorrow, August 5th, at 1 P.M. If you plan to make it here, make it to your computer when tickets go on sale. Both nights will likely sell out… Fast! You can pick them up on Ticketmaster for $40.
