Kassav’ @ The North Beach Bandshell 9/10

Kassav’ is coming to The North Beach Bandshell in Miami Beach on Saturday, September 10th. This band has been making music since 1979. In that time they have released over 20 albums, and the band is still together in it’s original form.

Kassav’ are a band from Guadeloupe in the Caribbean. Their music is very in tune with the culture of the islands, their name itself being taken from a local dish made with cassava root. They took inspiration from other bands in the area and from traditional meringue music. When they first started they wanted to use modern music production techniques to bring this music into the future. The result was their fast paced Zouk style, perfect music for carnivals and other celebrations in the islands. Kassav’ have had a large influence on the genre of music they create and succeeded in spreading it to a wider audience, as well as advancing it technically. Take a listen to “Kolé Séré” and “PIÉ MWEN” below.

Their show will be at The North Beach Bandshell, an amphitheater surrounded by palm trees and the beach. Kassav’s music is a perfect fit for Miami, and with so many people from the Caribbean living here I’m sure there’s some people from Guadeloupe out there who would love to see this show. Even if you just appreciate the music for it’s flavor and beats, this show should be great for you.

Henry Ehlebracht: I am an NYU student from Miami who loves writing. I am a dual major in Philosophy and Journalism and I'd love to share my thoughts on music with you. My two favorite music genres are definitely hip hop and electronic/dance, but I'm really open to anything that piques my interest. I'm currently in New York for school. Electronic album reviewer for MXDWN. Although I write about music for the website, my media interests stretch into many areas including movies and video games.
