Massive Attack have release two brand new songs, ‘Come Near Me’ and ‘The Spoils’. Both songs are written and produced by Massive Attack’s Daddy G and collaborator Stew Jackson.

These new songs follow January’s release of the Ritual Spirit’ EP, which was written and produced by the band’s Robert del Naja and collaborator Euan Dickinson.

The track “Come Near Me” features British vocalist Ghostpoet.

“The Spoils” is in collaboration with Mazzy Star vocalist, Hope Sandoval. This song marks their second track together following 2010’s “Paradise Circus”.

They have also released a video for one of the tracks.

The video for “Come Near Me” is the brainchild of  writer and director Ed Morris and features Kosovan actress Arta Dobroshi.

The clip finds a woman and a man standing some distance apart, with the women taking a step backwards each time he takes one forward, as he tries to get closer to her. It’s as if the woman is trying to leave the one she loves. Maybe she feels trapped, or maybe she decided this isn’t what she wants anymore. The man follows her as they wind through the city, the woman always a step behind. She ignores what is going on in the world because it’s as if this is the biggest problem. Finally she reaches the ocean and releases herself to the depths of the water. She is free and he disappears.

Earlier this year, Massive Attack released the four-track Ritual Spirit  EP. Which included videos for the tracks “Take It There” and “Voodoo in My Blood”.

Ritual Spirit features collaborations with Tricky, Young Fathers, Roots Manuva and Azekel, while the production was handled by Robert “3D” Del Naja. It was recently announced that they will reconnect with one of their former collaborators, Tricky.

A full-length album is said to be coming in the near future. In the meantime Massive Attack are performing live across Europe throughout the summer; including the Way Out West Festival.
