Banks & Steelz, the collaborative effort between Interpol’s Paul Banks and Wu-Tang Clan legend RZA, has just released the new video for their song “Giant”. The song, which is the first track off of their upcoming album Anything But Words, can be viewed below:
The video, directed by Wendy Morgan, is the second video off of the upcoming album to be released so far. The cinematography in the video is beautiful, most notably the image of two parallel skylines behind RZA as he passionately raps about mankind’s apathy towards preserving itself and the planet it inhabits. The editing is snappy, featuring constant quick cuts that help accentuate the fast pace of RZA’s rapping and the percussion behind him. The song itself features a beat (produced by John Hill and Kid Harpoon of Florence + the Machine) that is punchy and quick, highlighted with passionate rapping from RZA and beautiful vocals from Banks.
RZA and Banks started collaborating after RZA’s manager asked him which musicians he’d like to collaborate with. Regarding this, RZA explained,
“When I met Paul, I recognized the New York energy he has as a music artist. We got to know each other playing chess and vibing out in the studio. Our talents connected in a unique way and we started writing songs. The outcome was something distinctively different from my previous work, yet with another layer of cool.”
To celebrate the release of their upcoming album, Banks and Steelz will begin touring at the end of August, making appearances at a variety of music festivals.
