Japanese metal-idol fusion band Babymetal recently collaborated with Judas Priest’s Rob Halford at the 2016 Alternative Press Music Awards. They performed Judas Priest classics like “Breaking the Law” and “Painkiller”. The performance can be viewed below:
The female-fronted Babymetal has made waves in the metal community lately, love them or hate them. Their Japanese idol band influence is prevalent in the band’s image and lyrics. Lyrical content includes societal pressures on girls to be thin, bullying, chocolate, and the struggle for girls to be “ideal women”. Obviously, these lyrical themes differ wildly with those of traditional metal, alienating some purists of the genre. Still, established metal acts like Rob Zombie and Rob Halford are fond of the band, which gives them some authenticity in a genre notorious for shunning outsiders.
