The one and only legendary hip-hop group, Pete Rock & CL Smooth, will be performing in New York City this September 26th at B.B. King Blue’s Club.
Known for his influential contribution to hip-hop in the early 90’s, Pete Rock & CL Smooth still stand as one of the most influential hip-hop groups of all time. The duo from Mount Vernon released their critically acclaimed record, Mecca and the Soul Brother, in 1992 and it is still regarded as one of the greatest hip-hop records of all time. The group recently released a remastered version of the prequel to Mecca, All Souled Out, in celebration of its 25th anniversary this year. The EP, which was also their debut release, was the first of its kind when it was released in 1991 which inevitably launched them into mainstream success. However, Pete Rock is known mostly for his production on the release, and he only appears on one song, The Creator, which you can check out below.
The hip-hop group went their separate ways in later years, but Pete Rock continued to produce his original music as a solo artist and continues to do so to this day. The group has reunited a handful of times since the “golden age of rap” but Rock continues to release his solo instrumental records. He released his newest album, Petestrumentals 2, last month which can be purchased on his personal Bandcamp. Check out the track, Heaven & Earth; that appeared on the record.
After celebrating the anniversary of All Souled Out in addition to the release of his newest record, this is a show you’re not going to want to miss. If you want to catch this legendary rap group live at B.B. King Blue’s Club on September 26th, you can purchase your tickets now on their website for only $25.
