It has been two years since the heavy metal band Red Fang from Porland, OR, have released an LP, and fans have been clambering for new material since the not-so-recent Whales & Leeches came out in 2013. Well, their prayers will be answered, because earlier today the 4-piece band announced that they will be releasing their newest studio album Only Ghosts on October 14th, via Relapse Records.
According to Blabbermouth, the band worked with producer Ross Robinson, whose been in the metal scene a long time and has worked with bands such as Slipknot, Korn, Sepultura, Limp Bizkit, plus many other marquee bands, in order to extract exactly what sound the group was looking for on this recent album. Another heavy hitter to assist the group in mixing the new music was Joe Barresi, known for working with Tool, Queens of the Stone Age, The Melvings, and others, bringing his extensive knowledge of sound engineering to the studio in order to fine tune the group’s sounds into a clear and coherent track list.
The band sat with Revolver and discussed what working with the duo was like “Working with Ross and Joe on this record was a huge leap forward for us,” said the band jointly. “The process was very challenging and rewarding, and I think we’re a better band for it. This album expresses exactly where we’re at. We’re super proud of it and can’t wait for people to hear it!”
Bassist Aaron Beam discussed in detail what working with Robinson in the studio taught him, “He really digs into the meaning behind the songs so that when you’re recording, you’re doing it with conviction and purpose,” he said. “It’s less about the little technical things. He’s more concerned with getting a performance and focusing on what you’re trying to give the world by making this music in the first place.”
In order to help support the upcoming album Red Fang released the first track “Flies” off Only Ghosts, giving fans a taste of what is coming out of the band’s workshop.
With this new album on the horizon it can be expected that a full tour will follow in order to add more support to the LP, as well as do what the band does best, which is entertain the hoards of fans that they perform for.
