WATCH: The Lumineers Release New Video For “Cleopatra”

Denver, Colorado based folk band, The Lumineers have just shared the newest music video for their second single “Cleopatra” off the new second album with the same name, telling the story of Manana, a woman from the Republic of Georgia.

The new video was directed by Isaac Ravishankara, who also directed Ellie Goulding videos, Hozier, and Phantogram, and is the first of a series which tells the story of the album. The video opens us up on Cleo, who is a divorced taxi driver around the age of 55, we follow her through the day as she has her passengers come in and out of her cab. Constantly seeing so many people throughout her day, we can’t help but see herself as part of their lives, especially the last passenger she gets, her son, who she drops off at home to his father, seeing herself in that life as well as the song comes to end.

The Band makes their appearance in the video a minute and a half into the video, Cleo sees them as they head to the airport to leave town, all the time Cleopatra feels as if she has seen them before, or knows she will see them again some day.

Lead Vocalist Wesley Schultz commented on the tune saying “Cleopatra was the bedrock of the album,” continuing “She drives taxis and is this badass lady – she’ll pick you up at the airport with a cigarette hanging out her mouth and a beer can between her legs”.

The new track has made it to the No. 1 spot on Billboard as a charting album from an indie label with many listeners overseas.

This new music video provides a fantastic preview to the group’s upcoming tour in support of their new Cleopatra.
