LISTEN: Russian Circles Release New Song “Mota”

Stereogum reports that following their May release of the single “Vorel“, Chicago based post-metal trio Russian Circles have just released another track coming off their upcoming sixth studio album Guidance.

Russian Circles’ guitarist Mike Sullivan, drummer Dave Turncrantz, and bassist Brian Cook, with the help of engineer/co-producer Kurt Ballou, were able to capture a broad tonal palette and wide array of emotional motifs into a cohesive journey through ugliness, beauty, anger, and happiness of the human existence.

“Vorel” was the first introduction to the groups upcoming work, showcasing a heavy and hard tone to the new LP. With dark, building, rifts from the guitar, bass, and drums, that all seem to be searching for its other instrumental counter-part as they continue growing, as they reach the middle of the track the trio seem to find a heavy groove and manage to get into a rhythm which carries till the end of the song, making the listener want more.

Now, with the newly released “Mota”, fans can get another taste of what is to come from the rockers. “Mota” seems to go in the opposite direction, picking us up in a beautiful harmony between all three instruments, the guitar appears to sing to the developing drum beats and bass tones. The opening two minutes of the track will hit a person right in the feels, hearing this post-metal band evoking deep emotions from their music. The three minutes following transition into more heavier and crunchier metal tones, keeping to the same harmony only deeper and darker tones, jumping between the long deep bass notes and the guitar rifts that seem to be sent in a frenzy of  earth-shattering harmonics. while the drums continue to smash away, culminating in a somewhat abrupt ending where it seems that the guitar is shrieking from tiredness and heavenly tones to calm the listener after such an epic 6 minutes, but just leaving us wanting more.

The new track is a fantastic second preview to the new album, the group seems to be as strong as ever, and with the upcoming tour it will be possible to see exactly how they can rock out their newest songs.
