Underworld releases new video for “Nylon Strung”, the track from their fantastic recent album Barbara Barbara, we face a shining future, which released March 18th this year.
The album was widely acclaimed by fans and critics who are excited about the duo’s comeback and reunion. Barbara Barbara, we face a shining future, was the duo of Karl Hyde and Rick Smith’s first released LP in over a decade. The video for “Nylon Strung” features hypnotizing cuts of intricate hand movements that captures the viewers attention while also pairing perfectly with the songs feel. The video via Spin, was directed by Tomato and features Hyde in some parts moving his hands in motions that almost seem like he is writing out messages mid-air for the viewer.
The British duo has been pushing the limits of dance and electronic music since their formation back in 1980. Karl Hyde and Rick Smith’s history is filled with notable milestones, including a tour with Eurythmics, song dedications from the band Radiohead, and Hyde playing guitar in Debbie Harry’s band. Both Hyde and Smith have spent more than their fair amounts of time contributing to and influencing the state of past and present dance music.
Underworld paved a new path for electronica with their debut album Dubnobasswithmyheadman. The duo rose to fame back in 1996 when their record “Born Slippy.NUXX” was featured on the soundtrack for Trainspotting. Underworld isn’t looking to reinvent themselves or change the game with their new album Barbara Barbara, we face a shining future. They are confronting dance music with a revitalized break on the iconic sound the duo is known for, while still taking some inspiration from new avenues of sound.
Karly Hyde began writing a public diary in 1999 on Underworld’s website, and it will soon be published as a book by Faber & Faber on November 3rd. The books cover will be designed by John Warwicker, the co-founder of the design studio Tomato, which is also behind the new video. The duo is currently rounding off their tour for their new album now.
