The Allah-Las, the Los Angeles based lo-fi rock band, has just announced the release date for their new album. Their forthcoming album is entitled Calico Review, and is set to be the band’s third album after 2012’s Allah-Las and 2014’s Worship the Sun.
Calico Review is planned to be released later this year on September 9th via Mexican Summer. So far, the band has already released a single, “Famous Phone Figure” and an accompanying music video that can be seen here.
If “Famous Phone Figure” is any indication of what the rest of the album will be like, it definitely sounds great. It is very reminiscent of 1960s pop such as The Kinks.
Relating to that note, the familiar sound also comes from the type of instruments they used to create the album. As Past Magazine notes, “The surf-rock band was then able to access the equipment of one of the genre’s most legendary predecessors: The Beach Boys, who used the very same 1964 Universal Audio 610 soundboard to record their landmark album Pet Sounds as Allah-Las used to create Calico Review.”
In fact, you can definitely hear traces of Beach Boys sound in their music. Calico Review is surely to be a great album, and an unmissable one. Check out the track list below.
