Massive Attack announced earlier this week that they will perform multiple shows with formerly frequent collaborator, Tricky. The first of these shows will take place at London’s Hyde Park on July 1. Future joint performances will be announced on a later date.
The two trip-hop pioneers collaborated heavily on Massive Attack’s first two LP’s, 1991’s Blue Lines and 1994’s Protection. Their collaboration on Massive Attack’s return to form EP, 2016’s Ritual Spirit, marked their first joint production since the 1990’s.
According to NME, Massive Attack rarely plays live with Tricky, despite their close connection. The legendary artists have famously struggled to agree over musical direction, which led to their seemingly permanent split following Protection’s release.
Massive Attack’s lengthy Summer 2016 tour will see them front multiple notable all-day concerts. This includes Hyde Park, where artists including Warpaint, Patti Smith, TV on the Radio, and Ghostpoet will join Tricky in support of Massive Attack, and Bristol Downs, with Primal Scream and Skepta serving as supporting acts.
