To celebrate the announcement of their new album Hypercaffium Spazzinate, iconic punk band the Descendents will be embarking on a U.S. tour this September. Hypercaffium Spazzinate will be the first new album from the band since 2004. The first released track off of the album, “Victim of Me”, can be viewed below.
After twelve long years of waiting, the Descendents are finally releasing new music. Hypercaffium Spazzinate first began to take shape following the band’s brief reunion in 2010, where they played a handful of live shows. Because the band members today live far apart and have families of their own, it was very difficult for them to get together and share musical ideas. Singer (and beloved cartoon mascot) Milo Aukerman settled down in Delaware, drummer Bill Stevenson and bassist Karl Alvarez lived in Colorado, and guitarist Stephen Egerton ended up in Oklahoma. Undeterred by distance, the band sent ideas and tracks to each other through the Internet, and occasionally met up at Karl and Bill’s new hometown of Fort Collins, Colorado. This scattered songwriting process allowed for the band to slow down and compose tracks more slowly and carefully, which will hopefully show once the album releases. While the caffeine-induced jam sessions that produced their earlier works provided a very upbeat and infectious sound, it will be interesting to see how this slower, more mature approach to songwriting will affect their music.
Their tour will launch September 15th in Minneapolis and conclude November 12th in Portland. Additionally, the Descendents will perform at both the Chicago and Denver Riot Fests.
