Electronic heroine Little Boots has kicked off the summer with her dazzling synth-banger “Staring at the Sun”, which is the world’s first look at her newly announced EP Afterhours.

Produced by Richard X and “Face to Face” (a collaboration with Sam Sparro), the track is a sunny club banger that features droning bass punctuated by bursts of dreamy synths.  Little Boots’ voice has the unique characteristic of having both fierce bravado and confidence mixed with sugary sweetness. The quick tempo of the track is irresistibly dance-able, and is the perfect soundtrack to the beginning of the weekend after a rough week of working. Little Boots herself explains how this aspect of her music influenced the creation of Afterhours:

Afterhours is the soundtrack for when the photocopier powers down and the office is locked up and you want to find somewhere to let your hair down and forget about the day. I really wanted to release something as a ‘thank you’ to my fans for all their incredible support over the years.”

The British artist achieved first achieved mainstream success with her debut album Hands, which fused nostalgic appreciation for 80’s kitsch pop with the modern quirkiness of indie pop. Little Boots, along with Lady Gaga and Florence and the Machine, was noted as part of the mid-2000’s wave of young female artists who performed 80’s inspired music. Little Boots distinguishes herself from these artists by incorporating elements of house and classic disco in addition to synth pop.

Other than her EP, Little Boots has kept herself busy collaborating with the London-based tech company Studio Amplify to create the mixing app NOIZ. With NOIZ, users can seamlessly remix music on the go and share it with the world. “Staring at the Sun” is one of the tracks available for mixing within the app, which is free and can be downloaded on the Apple App Store. Regarding the app, Little Boots said:

“This is something I have been wanting to do for a long time. I’ve always been very passionate about music and technology and pushing where these two worlds collide. I also really wanted to do something for fans to explore the music. With this, they can literally hold the songs in their own hands and deconstruct them piece by piece, putting them back together however they want. For anyone that’s ever wanted to try their hand at remixing and not known where to start- here’s the most accessible and fun way.”

Little Boots will be releasing “Afterhours” through her record label On Repeat Records on June 17th, 2016. For more Little Boots, check out her delightfully infectious track “Magic Hour” here.
