Hot Chip frontman, Alexis Taylor, has just released a new music video for his song “I’m Ready.”
Although Taylor comes from the energetic and lively indie electronic group, Hot Chip, his solo work reflects a much more subdued sound. “I’m Ready” is soft and melancholic and the music video shows the same features.
The song is stripped down from Hot Chip’s complex instrumentation, and all that is left is just Alexis Taylor’s remarkable voice and a sole piano. Likewise, the music video for the song demonstrates just that. In a press release, Taylor and his team describe the video as gentle and intimate.
The video begins by showing the wrinkled and wise hands of a man as he plays the piano. Slowly the video zooms out to show the man and piano in full view before finally zooming in on the man’s face. The video is meant to be gentle and intimate as they described, and the man in the video is supposed to be an older version of Alexis Taylor.
The song is incredibly touching and heartfelt. His voice and the song itself is reminiscent of Paul McCartney, but has a much more modern and simple spin to it. It is brilliant and beautiful beyond words, and the video can be seen below.
“I’m Ready” comes from Alexis Taylor’s forthcoming album Piano set to be released later this month on June 10th via Moshi Moshi. This will be Taylor’s third solo album, and he plans to tour later this year as well.
