Nothing – Tired of Tomorrow

Hypnotized by Nothing

It’s a difficult thing to write about Nothing. Wink wink. Although it is an unfortunate name for a band, their music is anything but nothing. Forewarning, Nothing’s music is an unapologetic concoction of real life sentiments created along hypnotizing melodies that can attract any kind of music lover. The sound at its surface is reminiscent of early 90s alternative rock, similar to a Buffalo Tom, Late at Night type of feel but better.

Previously, the Philly band is said to be well known for their loudness. Their newest album, Tired of Tomorrow, has a variety of fantastic tracks worthy to explore, but as far as loudness goes, it is safe to say it could be louder. For example, their track “Everyone is Happy” is not very loud at all. In fact, it is quite the opposite. However, do not worry, Nothing has a little something for everyone to venture into, even hopeless romantics. The band members give off a cool laid back demeanor (as many rock stars do), but their music speaks to life and matters of the heart. Domenic Palermo is a talented lyricist, bringing to life and imagery within the song “Fever Queen.” His entrancing words are beautiful, sad and relatable. This lends to his ability to tug on the heartstrings of any listener. Hopeless romantics will most definitely have that song on repeat.

Nothing’ s music can only be described as a soothing aura that is illuminating at its core. Even though the content of many of the songs are indeed sad, depressing and somewhat on the pessimistic side, Nineteen Ninety Heaven is a nostalgic dream land capable of taking the listener far away from their reality. Take caution when deciding to take a listen, it is inevitable to find one’s self sucked into Nothing.
