Bat For Lashes, also known as instrumentalist and visual artist Natasha Khan, has just released the new video for the song “Sunday Love.” The track is the latest single off her upcoming album, The Bride.
“Sunday Love” is a heartfelt track that sees Khan wandering in the middle of the road before bringing an oblivious, leather jacket clad driver to a halt. After stopping the car, he wanders into the desert followed by three silent angels of death, collapses into Khan’s arms, and is levitated into the heavens. Of course, this only makes sense when one knows the story behind The Bride. It is a concept album that “follows the story of a woman whose fiance has been killed in a crash on the way to the church for their wedding. The Bride flees the scene to take the honeymoon trip alone, resulting in a dark meditation on love, loss, grief and celebration.” “Sunday Love” is a visual representation of not only the fiance’s death, but Khan’s grief.
Bat For Lashes released the first single, “I Do,” back in February, while “In God’s House” was released in March. With each single, more of the story comes to fruition and reveals the deeper themes behind The Bride and its title character. Khan is currently finishing up her Spring 2016 tour, and has several other performances lined up, including the Pitchfork Music Festival. She is also set to perform The Bride in its entirety to a sold out crowd at Saint Ann & The Holy Trinity in New York on June 1st. This will conclude her exclusive series of intimate church performances, which have received excellent reviews. Be sure to pick up the new album on July 1 and watch the video for “Sunday Love” below.
