After a long hiatus, The Avalanches are set to release new music in an exciting way. Onlookers in London recently spotted some posters for the group’s upcoming documentary Since They Left Us, complete with a phone number at the bottom. A quick call to the number allows the listener to hear their new single, “Subways.”
The Avalanches have stayed relatively quiet since the release of their debut album, Since I Left You, in 2000…until now. This year, the group has updated their social media accounts and announced a series of festival dates, although they have not performed live since 2007. They also released a teaser trailer hinting at new music and collaborations with Father John Misty, Danny Brown, Ariel Pink, and many more. The clip resembles a movie trailer and is presumably to promote the new documentary, but one cannot help wondering if the moment has finally come for The Avalanches, to release their highly-anticipated sophomore album and get back in the spotlight.
It certainly seems that The Avalanches are ready for a comeback. On June 3, the group will play their first live performance in years at Barcelona’s Primavera Sound Festival. This is one of a handful of tour dates that the group announced earlier this year, and will likely be in support of the new album. While no details have been released regarding a release date, title or track list, one can only hope that the wait is almost over.
