Norwegian artist, Jenny Hval, has announced that she will be releasing her fourth album Blood Bitch on September 30th. The album will be released via Sacred Bones records, an independent label based in New York.
With the announcement of this new album, Hval released a new single, “Female Vampire.” This single is simply described as “an experimental track that layers snippets of her soft, high-pitched voice to create a spooky, slightly hypnotic melody.”
Hval released a statement regarding her new album. She states that Blood Bitch “is also a fictitious story, fed by characters and images from horror and exploitation films of the ‘70s. With that language, rather than smart, modern social commentary, I found I could tell a different story about myself and my own time: a poetic diary of modern transience and transcendence.”
She also states there is a character in her story, a vampire called Orlando. It also features a 35-year old artist wearing a black wig, in a constant touring loop. Hval says that this album is the “most fictional and personal album.”
Just last year, the artist released Apocalypse, girl, which was her third album in just three years. This album was released via Sacred Bones as well, and featured a number of guest performances from Thor Harris from Swans to Jaga Jazzist’s Oystein Moen.
Along with her new album and single, Hval announced a tour throughout major US cities and throughout Europe starting June 3.
