Electronic duo Dengue Dengue Dengue have just released the stunning new video for their song, “Guarida.” The track features vocalist Sara Van and is the first single off their highly-anticipated new album, Siete Raíces, to be released June 24th via Enchufada.
“Guarida” is a calm and sensual track with a video that is unlike anything in music today. The press release describes it as, “a stunning cinematic effort that explores the roots and legacy of afroperuvian culture in epic fashion. From time travelers to mythological creatures, Dengue’s eye-popping visual is an ample addition to the band’s reputable collection of artistic content.” Indeed, the video dives deep into Peruvian culture and includes exotic lyrics, masks and dances. Like all art, the subject matter is open to interpretation. However, it is clear that this video marks the beginning of a new chapter for Dengue Dengue Dengue.
It has been four years since the Peruvian duo released an album, and they are set on showing their mature new sound. “Guarida” marks the first time that vocals have been introduced into their music, and Sara Van’s soothing voice perfectly complements the hypnotic instrumental. This collaboration “effortlessly unites tradition and modernity as the duo graduates into a unique aesthetic and musical sensibility that confirms we’ve entered a whole new era for the Global Club Music scene.”
Dengue Dengue Dengue caught the attention of the public when they emerged with their unique sound, one that the press release describes as, “traditional cumbia fused with modern electronic rhythms of dub, techno and dancehall.” They have revolutionized the digital cumbia movement with their two albums, La Alianza Profana and the follow-up Serpiente Dorada EP. It seems that the new album will launch the duo into a whole new era that celebrates the past, present and future, and it will be exciting to see where they go from here.
