Ever since Rage Against The Machine bombed Los Angeles with merch that said, #TAKETHEPOWERBACK, a reference to a song from Rage Against the Machine, people were wondered what it meant. Will Rage rise again? Well it turns out that 3/4 of them have reincarnated as the powerful trifecta, Prophets of Rage, alongside Chuck D from Public Enemy and B-Real of Cyprus Hill.
If their slightly ominous website prophetsofrage.com is any indication, we can expect a future-pointed scream in approximately a week and five days from the time of this article. The website is a reference an old Public Enemy album, It Takes a Nation of Millions to Hold Us Back. The three of four members from RATM, include guitarist Tom Morello, drummer Brad Wilk and Tim Commerford on bass, sans Zach De La Rocha.
The use of suspenseful advertising that borders on scavenger-hunt-esque tactics is not new to the industry, and has gained respect over the years. Rolling Stone picked up the story, pointing out it piqued the interest of Questlove, and other fans. Earlier yesterday, Chuck D. tweeted a video of him and Rage Against The Machine show in Finsbury Park, London. The power house rock group combined with two rap legends bodes well. The band’s debut date is at The Hollywood Palladium on June 3rd. There appears to be a show in the works at the Whisky a Go Go in West Hollywood as well. While none of this has been officially confirmed, all signs point to a new, exciting new project from these music legends.
