Last month, the indie rock band Wolf Parade announced that they were ending their five-year hiatus with the release of their new EP. While details on the title and release date were kept mum, the group claimed that the sound would be a mix of Rocky Horror Picture Show and Queen, leaving fans in anticipation. However, the band has now confirmed that the EP will be available for streaming on May 17.
While the EP does not yet have an official title, it is being listed online as EP 4 and will consist of four songs. Each song is available for 30-second preview on Amazon, and the band seems confident in their latest effort. In an interview with Exclaim, the group spoke about the inspirations behind the release. “There’s a heavy glam vibe on the new stuff… [one track] kinda reminded me of early Queen and The Rocky Horror Picture Showsoundtrack,” said Dan Boeckner. He also noted that it was a complete departure from Wolf Parade’s standard sound, and they were diving straight into this transition.“This new stuff is comparatively really short… it’s pretty energetic. All the songs are really fast.”
Wolf Parade is also ready to get back on tour. They are scheduled to play the Bowery Ballroom in New York City, their first show in five years, on the album release date. This will lead into a three-month tour that will take them all over the world. Additionally, they are scheduled to perform some new material during a May 20 appearance on The Late Show.
