Alice Cooper and his original band have not performed together since October of last year. This was the first time they had played together since 2011 when they were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. The special occasion that brought them together, in 2015, was Dennis Dunaway’s book signing, where they surprised the lucky fans that happened to be in attendance.
Mark Bowman, photographer who was at the signing said, “The surviving members of the Alice Cooper group seemed so happy to be playing together and feeding of the delirious crowd’s energy.” This brief reunion must have been new found inspiration for Cooper, who announced, he will be working with some people fans may recognize to help evoke the feel of the 1971 record on his new, upcoming album. He revealed that Dennis Dunaway, the original bassist, “wrote two or three things,” he also stated, “I wrote three or four songs with Neil Smith(original drummer) and Mike Bruce (original guitarist).”
Although most of the members of the original band will be reuniting on Cooper’s new album, it will be a reminder to fans that not everyone will be able to participate. Glen Buxton, another original guitarist, passed away in 1997 from pneumonia at the age of 49. Replacing Buxton at the impromptu reunion and in the band was Ryan Roxie (current guitarist for the Alice Cooper band), who had been in the band from 1996-2006, and later rejoined in 2012.
