Kylesa has officially gone on an indefinite hiatus.
The eclectic trio took to Facebook on April 28 to thank their fans for the support and address any further questions. Read the full statement below.
To our fans and friends… After 15 years of nonstop touring and writing, we decided that it is time for a break. A lot of you have been asking when we are coming to your part of the world and that means a lot to us. However, we feel it should be known that as of now we have no plans to play any shows or work on any new material. We have collectively decided to take a hiatus with no set date to reconvene. We want to give a huge thanks to all our fans, friends, and family for the support over the years. It has been a killer journey and a real pleasure meeting so many amazing people along the way.
The hiatus came as a shock to many, as Kylesa has been working nonstop since the group’s formation in 2001. In this time, the band has released seven full-length albums, five EPs and three splits, toured with metal heavyweights such as Lamb of God and made a name for themselves in the music industry. Loudwire calls Kylesa “one of the most important totems of America’s 21st century southern metal uprising,” and compares them to fellow icons Mastodon and Baroness.
Kylesa’s latest album, Exhausting Fire, was released in October 2015 to critical acclaim. Outlets such as Spin, Pitchfork, Consequence of Sound and more praised the album for it’s mature and ambitious sound, while mxdwn even ranked it as #4 out of 50 on its annual Album of the Year list. Raymond Flotat says, “Exhausting Fire is alternately haunting and bone-crushing and sits alongside Baroness’ Purple as an example of how diverse, ambitious, and forward-thinking the best of modern sludge & doom metal can be.” It is no secret that Kylesa has kept busy in their 15 years as a band. In the past 6 months alone, the group released two new music videos, Night Drive and Lost and Confused, and toured with metal outfit Lamb of God.
It is said that all good things must come to an end, and Kylesa is no exception. As of now, the band members have no side projects or immediate plans to return to music.
