Canadian indie pop duo Tegan And Sara have officially released their newest music video to their song “Boyfriend” via Pitchfork, this single is coming off their upcoming new album Love You To Death, which is a follow up to their most recent LP Heartthrob. The new video was directed by their friend, and long time collaborator, Clea Duvall. The upcoming new studio album will be released June 3rd, and in order to excite fans they have chosen to create a visual medium to go along with their newly released track.
Twin musicias Tegan Rain Quin and Sara Keirsten Quin (both play the guitar and the keyboard), from Calgary, Alberta, have been on the indie pop scene performing together since 1995, releasing their first album Under Feet Like Ours in 1999, and have from then created an additional seven studio albums, last of which being the upcoming newest LP.
As they continued to perform around the globe, accompanying great bands and musicians such as Neil Young, Weezer, Death Cab For Cutie, Paramore, plus many many more, and performing on some of the biggest stages in the world, including Coachella, SXSW, Bonnaroo Music Festival, Outside Lands Festival, as well as plenty other familiar stage names, they managed to create an enormous fan following that has helped them propel them to the top of the indie pop scene.
The two sisters have credited plenty of big name bands and artist who have influenced them with their music writing. Green Day, Nirvana, The Smashing Pumpkins, Pink, Lily Allen, these are just a few names that the girls have said influenced their music the strongest. The duo is known for their on stage banter that fans have come to expect and look forward to from the two, telling stories and commentary about their childhood, politics, as well as their lives touring on the road, the show is not just about music, but also about them connecting and sharing their lives with their audience.
However, it is not just the stage that the two choose to dispense their music through, Tegan and Sara have also been known to have their music be a part of the film making world as well. They are most recently credited on their collaboration with satire group The Lonely Island for the track “Everything is Awesome”, the theme song to the popular kids movie “The Lego Movie”, which they also performed at the 2015 Oscar ceremony.
Now the two musicians have chosen to continue adding support to their upcoming album Love You to Death by releasing the track “Boyfriend” accompanied by a brand new music video. The new video is directed by actress Clea Duvall, who has collaborated with the twins in the past and making her directorial debut, and features Tegan and Sara, fashion designer Rachel Antonoff, actresses Sarah Ramos and Mae Whitman (both from hit series “Parenthood”), all of whom are on a constantly changing set with chroma keys, fans, and a few giant fluffy dogs.
This new video follows the release of “U-Turn”, another single of the upcoming LP, which will then be supported by the group’s upcoming Fall tour.
