Hip-Hop fans were thrown another bone at Coachella this weekend, when Lil Wayne made an appearance during G-Eazy’s set on Friday night inside the Sahara Tent.
Needless to say, when Wayne first came out, performing his fan favorite “A Milli” the crowd went off, and continued to do so through the performances of cuts like “The Motto”, “Truffle Butter” and “Pop That”. After it concluded, G-Eazy asked the crowd to thank Wayne, before doing an encore. Before Wayne left the stage, he showed his mourning for the huge loss suffered in the music world just several days earlier, saying “R.I.P Prince”.
Wayne’s last LP was his collaboration with 2Chainz released in March, ColleGrove, which followed 2015’s Free Weezy.
G-Eazy’s set otherwise stuck to his staple songs, with renditions of “Me, Myself & I”, “Loaded” and “You Got Me”, but bringing a high profile name like Wayne out just adds the number of pleasant surprises we’ve seen at this year’s Coachella. Ultimately, it was by all accounts a worthwhile addition to the performance.
