Paper Tiger, the DJ and founding member of hip-hop collective Doomtree, has just released his new EP, In Other Words: Part One. As he explained on Bandcamp, the In Other Words project will consist of four separate EP releases throughout the rest of the year.
He further explained that each release will “have its own feel based on a set series of albums that have had a super influential effect on me.” The music consists of vocals by Dessa, Aby Wolf, and Jessie Daley , live drumming by Nate Kinsella, and was mixed by Joe Mabbott at The Hideaway. When listening to the new EP, one is immediately met with an blend of genres including electro, indie and more. There is significantly less hip-hop than one would expect from a member of Doomtree, and that’s okay. Paper Tiger is exploring all aspects of his musical persona as a DJ, producer and solo artist. He goes on to express how excited he is to be releasing solo material and show gratitude to his fans.
Along with his solo material, he has kept busy with Doomtree. Last year, the group released their album All Hands, wrapped up a European tour and performed at festivals like the Riot Fest, Rifflandia, Boston Calling, SXSW and Fun Fun Fun Fest. They released their latest single off the new album, “Heavy Rescue,” last October and will likely be touring again soon. Be sure to check out the full track listing for In Other Words: Part One below and stay tuned for the other three releases throughout the year.
