Digable Planets, the nineties hip-hop trio, have announced a nine-date reunion tour for this summer. According to Brooklyn Vegan, “they said their New Year’s Eve show in Seattle would be the first of a few reunion shows, which then led to announced festival appearances at Sasquatch and Pitchfork.”
Most of the dates announced are in the South and Mid Atlantic regions. More dates are set to be announced.
The tour kicks off on July 18th in Cincinnati, following a few festival appearances. Digable Planets first announced their festival appearances at Sasquatch, Essence, and Pitchfork on New Years Eve. They’re also set to play Salt Lake City’s Twilight Concert Series on August 18th with Pusha T.
The group formed in the late eighties by Ishmael “Butterfly” Butler, Craig “Doodlebug” Irving and Mary Ann “Ladybug Mecca” Vieira. The trio had a few hits in the ’90’s before disbanding in 1995. According to Rolling Stone, “The group briefly reunited in 2005, but hadn’t performed together since 2011 prior to their New Year’s Eve show in Seattle.”
The group would venture into genres such as jazz, rap, and alternative hip-hop. Digable Planets have been on various reunion tours from 2005-2011.
