This past Friday, April 8th, The Avett Brothers performed their first ever headlining show at Madison Square Garden.
During the show the band performed new music off of their upcoming new album True Sadness including their upcoming single “Ain’t No Man.” In addition the band stopped the show to pay tribute to the late great Merle Haggard with a breathtaking performance of “Mama Tried” and “My Favorite Memory.”
After the performance Seth Avett said “Thank You…Thank you Merle.”
Haggard, a legend in the world of country music, and honestly music in general, passed away last Wednesday, April 6th of complications from double pneumonia, which he had been battling with in recent months. He was 79.
The bands set list spanned their entire, very distinguished career but the Haggard tribute was no doubt the highlight, leaving everyone in Madison Square Garden with a tear in their eye.
