Tegan and Sara have just released two new songs: “U-Turn” and “Boyfriend” from their forthcoming album Love You To Death coming June 3rd via Warner Bros. Records.
On Thursday April 7th, the 35 year old twins released their single “Boyfriend” which reveals a very personal side of their music. It was about a woman who had never dated a female before and was currently dating a man at the time that the song was written.
Just 24 hours later, the sisters released the song “U-Turn”, that will be featured on the new album as well. “U-Turn” speaks of the twins changing there actions for a current love interest said Consequence of Sound. It is encompasses an especially full sound featuring synth heavy sounds.
Originally from Canada, the two sisters started music at an early age, with heavy support from their parents. They started learning piano at the age of 8 and were a part of separate punk bands during high school. By the time the 90’s were coming to a close, their music was starting to get recognized. They won Calgary’s “Garage Warz” competition, were offered a slew of tour dates with Sarah McLachlan. Neil Young’s Vapor Record’s offered them a deal in 2000 and ever since then they’ve never looked back.
Since then they’ve taken part in tours by Katy Perry and Taylor Swift and their music has been featured in an Oreo Commercial as well as on Grey’s Anatomy. They will be playing a show at the Roxy on May 2nd in support of their upcoming album.
