Fujiya & Miyagi, Brighton-based electronic driven band have announced that they will be releasing a new album on May 27th, the new studio album is named EP 1 and will be released via Impossible Objects of Desire. The new album will be released on 12″ vinyl, adding to the artists who have chosen to bring back the lost art of wax vinyl production. Fujiya & Miyagi have also shared the first single “Serotonin Rushes” for fans to preview the new material they are producing, this new album features four tracks on it which is the first of three EP’s of vinyls to come from the group culminating to their upcoming LP that will be released in early 2017.
The foursome has been known for 15 years making expansive, multifaceted, experimental electronica, this has not been any different for this new album. As a unit, the four-man band has came together and successfully tapped into different elements of electronic music, fusing breathy electro pop and post-punk-indebted scratchy dance and melding their ideas succinctly onto a four-track 12″ vinyl.
Group vocalist David Best sat down to discuss the thought process of the upcoming releases, stating “We wanted to find a different way to release an album’s worth of songs. Rather than the traditional format of releasing an album in one go we liked the idea of separating it into three distinct segments. As vinyl collectors ourselves we hoped that the idea of the first EP’s packaging containing spaces for the second and third EP releases would appeal to other record lovers too.”
The new album intends to be their most electronic-focused album of the three releases, listening to the beginning of “Serotonin Rushes” is a disco-funk rager that gloriously captures the title of the song, you can not help but feel euphoric from the melodies that the band produced “We wanted to create music that was uplifting rather than concentrating on less optimistic emotions which we have done on previous records. I feel like we have tried to shed our skin in certain respects and have created something more positive.”
There is no question that when these three meet, magic is made, and it is no different with EP 1, the four members are setting to take their release to a whole new level of progress. Once the three albums are finished and come together it will be incredible to see how they fused all their knowledge and skill together to produce their 12-song work. This first album looks to be innovative in concept and musically varied in the best kind of way, or as they reckon “It will hopefully be our most varied and interesting record to date.” Hopefully they meet their expectations and fans get what they want and more.
