Returning to the city of Pittsburgh for its 4th year in a row and looking to make another large splash in the festival community is Thrival Music Festival, which is an annual event which features multiple innovation-focused programmed days that are capped off with a two-day live music experience outdoors. According to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, Thrival has just released its first wave of artist for this year’s lineup, featuring names from all over the musical spectrum, this upcoming festivities look like they will have a little something for everyone to enjoy. The festival will take place during September 23-24, and will be located at Carrie Furnaces in Swissvale, PA.
Thrival launched its innovation project in 2013 at Bakery Square as an initiative of Thrill Mill Inc. which is a nonprofit Pittsburgh-based operation that serves as an hatchery and breeder for early stage entrepreneurs. It wanted to celebrate its “proof of concept” bringing in nearly 2,000 attendees for the day to talk all about innovations, idea pitches for entrepreneurs, and an evening live show that featured big name artists like RJD2, and rap group De La Soul, plus several other performers. In the following years after its birth the festival just kept getting bigger and bigger, with more attendees and even more big name artists, welcoming 7,000 people in 2014 and featuring Moby, and Portugal. The Man. Growing even larger in 2015 with 40 musical performers plus 36 innovation events in six different neighborhoods around the Hazelwood area for over 10,000 people.
Their goal is to constantly get better, striving to consistently improve on what they had done from the previous year. Executive producer of this festival, Dan Law, discussed this year’s expectations and what people have to look forward to. “This year, we’re really experimenting with the lineup — and aiming for an inter-generational feel to the experience. With this first announce, we’re blending an array of different sounds — ranging from jazz, to indie folk, to electronic. We hope our audience is as excited as we are about it,”. It seems Dan was not lying, bringing in artist from all over the spectrum, providing electropop with their main headlining band CHVRCHES, then bringing the Canadian indie-rock group Metric, as well as Thievery Corporation, with their jam based electronica, as another headlining band, funk was not forgotten either, with Lettuce coming in to jam it out to their east coast fans again, plus several other performers to round out the innovation filled days.
Thrival festival is set up to be a great inexpensive festival, with early bird tickets running $49 , and provides a enlightening experience for any entrepreneur and music lover.
