Hailing from Milwaukee, Wisconsin, punk rock band Violent Femmes has announced their tour dates across the U.S. for this coming spring. Their tour will kick off in April at the Beale Street Music Festival in Memphis and end in Kansas City in July with the KRBZ 96.5 Buzz Beach Ball. Additional dates are to be announced in the future. Violent Femmes just finished a sold-out Australian tour along with many sold out U.S. tour dates, so they’ve extended their tour to include Asbury Park’s Stony Pony Summerstage series.
This tour is in support of their latest album release, We Can Do Anything, which was released just a few weeks ago. The album is their ninth studio album so far, and it is their first since their last album Freak Magnets, released in 2000. This was a result of the band’s temporary disbandment. After Freak Magnets was released, they decided to stop making new music and simply play shows when booked. But after a lawsuit over advertising rights, the band disbanded for a bit, to reunite at Coachella in 2013. We Can Do Anything is their first album in sixteen years. There’s a great review of it here.
On top of all of that, Violent Femmes has announced that they will be releasing their limited edition Record Store Day 7″, which will include “Memory” (from We Can Do Anything) and “You Move Me”, a previously unreleased track. It will be available on April 16th. Earlier this month, the band premiered the video for “Memory”, which was created and animated by Harley Hefford, an Australian video director. It shows a fictional narrative of a giraffe reminiscing with the founding band members over (made-up) memories from the past. Find the video and tour dates below.
