The Danish indie rock band, The Raveonettes, have just released a new video entitled “Excuses,” via Noisey.
The video is part of their new “Rave Sound of the Month” series. On the last Friday of every month this year, the band plans on releasing a new single. So far they’ve released “The World is Empty (Without You)” and “Run Mascara Run.” This month, they released “Excuses,” and was accompanied by a new video.
The video definitely matches the sound and feeling of the song. As with the rest of The Raveonettes’ Rave Sound of the Month entries, it is a bit of a departure from their usual music. It has a more electronic sound, though it does keep elements of their edgy, haunting rock feel.
The video showcases the lyrics superimposed on flashing images. In fact, the message contains a warning message that advises its photosensitive epileptic audience to use caution. The images resemble the screen of a 80s arcade game, with bright neon green planes firing rockets. As the video continues, the screen flashes repeatedly, pairing perfectly with the climbing of the song.
This series is the first release of The Raveonettes since their album Pe’ahi that was released in the summer of 2014, and which received fairly positive reviews.
The Raveonettes formed in 2001 in Copenhagen, Denmark. It consists of Sune Rose Wagner and Sharin Foo. Their first record, Chain Gang of Love, was released in 2003. Since then, the band has released a total of seven studio records, and five EPs. Apart from the Rave Sound of the Month series, the band have also launched a pledge. It promises to give its contributors a vinyl or CD at the end of the year with a collection of the songs in the series, with an added 2 bonus songs. The pledge also contains additional content, such as teasers and samples, that will be unreleased to those who don’t pledge.
