Mogwai have released a new song from their upcoming album, Atomic, titled “Bitterness Centrifuge.” The album is set to be released on April 1st.
“The drama in “Bitterness Centrifuge” isn’t easy to read. It’s kind of like a mirror: it can seem positively uplifting or darkly melancholic depending on what emotions you bring to listening experience,” according to NPR.
The band previously released “Ether” and “U-235”, which is based on their soundtrack Atomic: Living in Dread and Promise, according to Pitchfork. The documentary was aired last year on BBC.
Over the past couple decades, the band has constantly been changing and developing their music, creating a wide array of sounds. They have never been afraid to experiment with their sound or recreate it. The band seems meant to create soundtracks, so Atomic should be no disappointment.
When asked about the upcoming album, band member Stuart Braithwaite stated, “The Atomic soundtrack is one of the most intense and fulfilling projects we’ve taken on as a band,” he commented in a statement. “Ever since we went to Hiroshima to play and visited the peace park this has been a subject very close to us. The end results, both the film score and the record are pieces I’m extremely proud of.”
