Amnesia Rockfest Announces 2016 Lineup Featuring Against Me!, At The Drive-In And Puscifer

Returning to celebrate its 11th annual year in Montebello, Canada, the 2016 Amnesia Rock Fest Music Festival has just announced via Consequence of Sound the official line up for this year’s festivities and boy oh boy! lookout Montebello, because you’re in for quite the rock n’ roll treat. The festival is happy to announce that they will be hosting two of the biggest headliners they have had yet in their 11 years of existence, pop-punk group Blink-182 are set to perform a legendary show, as well as hardcore-punk band Rise Against who will be flying from their home town in Chicago to perform for their Canadian fans. Amnesia festival’s lineup is stacked with big and small names in the rock n roll community, and is sure to bring the fire this summer starting June 23rd through the 26th.

Founded in 2005 by a 17-year old local resident of Quebec, Canada, named Alex Martel, who was sick and tired of traveling large distances to attend his favorite rock groups. He had the brilliant idea to start a festival right there in his hometown of Montebello, originally naming it Petite-Nation Rockfest. The festival started off shaky with a near cancellation due to tornado issues which destroyed nearly all of the location just several hours before the start, however, three bands still decided to play the festival and nearly 500 attendees were present for the inaugural year. It took a one year break to regroup and in 2007 it came back in the same format as the maiden year, as the years went on the festival continued to expand to more days, more attendance, and more bands to play epic shows. The lineups catered to the punk and metal rock scene in Canada that was searching for its own festival, bringing bands from all over the Quebec punk scene. When The Ottawa Citizen sat down with Alex Martel he explained his inspiration and goals for Rockfest “I  really focused it on punk rock, metal and hardcore, which is how Rockfest started. Obviously it’s more diverse now but I wanted to go back to those roots. Our early fans are happy and feel like the old Rockfest is back, but at the same time, I tried to keep the diversity that we’ve added in the past couple of years. I think it’s a good balance for everyone.”

This year looks to be no different from the other years as far as top notch performers go. One of the main headlining shows to keep in mind is the addition of alt-rock legends Jane’s Addiction, who have not appeared on stage in Quebec for 20 years. Many bands are looking to make big time splashes at this festival, which looks to be a premiere stop for any rock fan.
