Influential post-hardcore band Thursday have announced their first live show since their disbandment in 2011. The appearance will come at Atlanta’s Wrecking Ball Festival which will be taking place August 12-14. It appears as if the individual personal problems that brought about the 2011 split have calmed to the point where the group can once again share the stage.
Frontman Geoff Rickly talked about the reconciliation process, saying: “Earlier this year, we were able to reconcile all of our differences and spend time together. This is a vital component to what we loved about being in Thursday and we’re happy to say that we’ll be playing this show as the same line-up that began touring together on Full Collapse and jointly worked on every record since.”
He continued, saying: “At our peak, Thursday were a band fiercely devoted to local music, community and compassion,” Rickly said in a statement. “We plan to use this occasion to renew our commitment to those ideas.”
The lineup for the reunion show will consist of frontman Rickly, guitarists Tom Keeley and Steve Pedulla, bassist Tim Payne, drummer Tucker Rule, and keyboardist Andrew Everding.
The last time we got new music from Thursday was their 2011 release No Devolución. Since that time Rickly has been involved with various other projects including United Nations, No Devotion and his own Brooklyn based label Collect Records.
Thursday was formed in New Brunswick, New Jersey in 1997. Originally formed to play basement shows in the New Jersey area, the band quickly rose through the ranks of the New Jersey post-hardcore scene and were signed to Chicago label Victory Records in 2001. Their sophomore effort “Full Collapse” produced critical acclaim and the lead single from the LP “Understanding in a Car Crash” received heavy airplay on MTV.
The band will donate a portion of proceeds from the festival to SisterSong, an Atlanta-based group dedicated to reproductive justice. Other bands on the lineup include Dinosaur Jr., L7, Drive Like Jehu, Deafheaven, American Football, the Julie Ruin, Quicksand, Gorilla Biscuits, American Nightmare, Rainer Maria, Cold Cave, and more.
