Twiztid – Mutant: Remixed & Remastered

Twiztid is back at it again with a second hard rock album

Rap artists have tried to get into the rock scene a few times before, however; it being successful is another story. These Detroit native rap artists are a bit different in this case, because they are affiliated with the Insane Clown Posse.

The two artists recently released their second album in the rock scene called Mutant: Remixed & Remastered. Now their first album that was the transition from rap to hard rock was released way back in 2005 called Mutant. Mutant reached #11 on the Top Independent Albums chart and #80 on Billboard 200. They have sold over a million albums and all have been on the Billboard’s Top 100.

Psychopathic Records released Mutant: Remixed & Unmastered with the help of the producers Michael “Seven” Summers and Michael Rideout. They wanted a fresher sound with the new album, so that’s why they decided to remix and remaster each song that was on the first Mutant release. Good call.

Twiztid has made a big name for themselves as the most popular hip-hop acts, but will their new fascination with hard rock ruin what they have worked so hard for?

Their hardcore hip-hop had sinister lyrics with some humor behind it all as well, “ I rather spend my money on a hooker than a bright idea…” an example of a funny verse in the song “Mannikin.” The elements of their humor and lyrics still reside in their hardcore rock.

Their new album has a couple songs that aren’t too terrible. “Respirator” isn’t so much of a hardcore rock song, but a little more on the soft side with a hint of a rap flow.

Even though they have stepped out of their comfort zone with doing another album in the “hardcore rock genre” they still seem to not be able to kick the rap bug. They still keep their rap flows within each song but instead of a rap beat they put sick guitar and drum sounds behind them.

The album is actually decent and will be heard live soon during their tours in Canada and a few cities the U.S.
