According to the BrooklynVegan, Justin Broadrick and Mark Kozelek, collaborative more widely known as Sun Kil Moon/Jesu, have announced a new tour heading to a city near you. The tour is including performances on both coasts of the country, while stopping in the many states in between, as well as international shows happening all around Europe. This announcement is coming out following their most recent performance in NYC, which was a show that was dedicating the performance to support their collaborative new album that the duo released in January. However, due to the successful turnout of the performance, a more sizable and significant tour has been created to entertain even more fans in more locations.
Mark Kozelek is the frontman to his project Sun Kil Moon, an American folk-rock band from San Francisco that began in 2002. The vocalist and primary guitarist for the project, Kozelek released seven studio LP’s before partnering up with Justin Broadrick. Broadrick, a singer/songwriter from Wales, had formed Jesu back in 2003 following his departure from the group Godflesh. Jesu’s experimental music was an eclectic mix of influences from all of the musical spectrum, ranging from ambient music, drone sounds, to shoegazing downtempo and industrial music. It wasn’t until 2015 when the duo found each other in the studio, however it did not take long for the two to sit down to work on a collaborative album, and on January of this year, the first self-titeled LP was released.
Before the experimental indie-rock duo can begin their tour here in the United States, Kozelek and his project Sun Kil Moon will be playing shows at the famous SXSW followed by a performance in Brooklyn, NY at Sarah Lawrence College. After that the band will be jetting off to Europe until the end of July, but the Europe shows will come with a special treat, choosing to accompany the Kozelek on some of the Eurotrip shows will be Steve Shelly, performing on drums, and Neil Halstead, the Slowdive member who will be playing the Guitar. Once Kozelek returns from Europe the collaboration will commence their US tour.
