It seems fans will have to wait even longer for the American rock band Tool‘s newest album. After recent reports from guitarist Adam Jones seemed to provide positive hopes regarding the upcoming album, frontman Maynard James Keenan was quick to temper those anticipations with quite somber update. According to Consequence of Sound, Keenan had sat down for an interview with The Press Enterprise and claimed “We’ve found a common ground. We just can’t seem to move forward”. This new LP has been in the works for quite some time now and even though the band has not stopped touring, it just looks like fans will not be getting the new music they want any time in the near future.
Fans were ecstatic in November when Jones reported to RollingStone that the group was working on a follow-up project to their 2006 album 10,000 days, claiming that recording sessions were progressing “wonderfully”. He stated that “Things are really flowing and going really well, and I’m just blown away at the stuff that’s coming together. I’m excited and can’t wait for it to be done. It’s something I’ve been missing for a long time [laughs], that beautiful collaboration that we have because we’re all so different and have different tastes. But again, when you are all meeting in the middle and that thing you do that meets in the middle is just beautiful, it’s very rewarding. So yes, I’m very happy.” This was all before Keenan had actually joined the band in the studio, rather he was waiting until the music of the album was finished to which he could then record the album lyrics.
However, as the year continued the band had decided to start a brief US tour, with several performance dates in January, and Keenan chose to divert his attention to that but planned to return to his work on the album shortly after. In fact, Keenan’s focus is still turned on his current side project Pusifier, his experimental alternative-rock project, which is set to undergo a set of tour dates beginning later this month.
Keenan does not seem too keen on setting his focus on Tool at the moment, he seems quite content on focusing on other projects, keeping fans feening for more new music, making them wait and hope for some shred of news regarding their band’s new work, and creating memes that poke fun at the amount of time it is taking.
Keenan has taken to social media to let people believe no new music is on it’s way, depressing even more fans.
Fans can only hope is that Keenan regains his focus on Tool, to rejoin the band in the studio so that they can all make musical magic and continue to pleasure the ears of their fans.
